Goals Podcast and Writing Habit [Journal Entry]

I am listening to Dr. Huberman’s “goal-setting toolkit” podcast for last couple of days, and in it is the whole thingamajig about the process/science behind goal-setting and goal-pursuit.

So, while listening to that and pondering, I was thinking what goal I should set and pursue while following these methods. Of course, there are things like deen stuff, etc., but it occurred to me that if I can establish a writing habit first, then that may open the door toward more things ‘flowing out of my head,’ so to speak.

Dr. Huberman was using writing goals as an example also. He was saying generally, the most successful writers are those who write daily. It may be 4500 words or 1000 or 2000, or it may be for a duration of time that they write, but they do it daily.

I’m thinking maybe I write 5-6 days per week, and then use the remaining 1-2 days to review and ‘synthesize’ what I’ve written.

I was thinking the usual “5-min writing session” as I’ve tried in the past, but since he said that the goal should ideally be ‘lofty,’ that we know we can do but it won’t be like super easy either, I’m going with a duration of 15-minutes.

This time can be used to write ANYTHING(s). Just thoughts, stuff to share with the world, etc. Like all [15-min timer just went off] things that I have/am learning by actually doing, this too will get figured and ironed out.

I would like to re-listen to the podcast while taking notes to write out how that toolkit applies to my specific goal here.

I think this one habit can lead to clearing of the head and really help me get going with all else that I want to do in the longer run (deen and dunya aspirations).

I also just started this thing where i’m writing side-bar thoughts (that come while writing) in the side margins of the notebook. Then I can revisit and say what i wanted to say on that so it isn’t forgotten.

Though the minimum timer is for 15-min, perhaps i won’t force myself to stop when time is up, if I want to keep writing.

It may end up being a lot in the beginning as things settle down (again, like anything else that is learned by doing).

Last thing is hand-writing vs. typing. Though overall (allegedly) hand-writing is supposed to be ‘better’ in many ways, there is probably a time/place for both, so will play it by ear as things go along.
